Numerous SVN of test and trunk over the last 2-3 months have given me random periods of what sounds like RX intermod or possibly mis-adjusted noise blanker even though NB was not enabled. In most cases, it sounded like splatter from a station Khzs away and in a few cases there was a rise in the panadapter noise floor across the whole display in sync with the amplitude of a strongest signal. I don't think it is a hardware problem because I can toggle VAC button off-on-off or on-off-on and the "intermod" goes away. I can not reproduce this at will and I have been unable to determine its pre-cursers...

Has anyone else seen this ??

It seems to always occur during these conditions:
1. Filter = 1 khz.
2. NR (noise reduction) enabled.
3. ANF (auto notch filter) enabled.
4. ambient noise level >S4 (on the meter)

The 'splatter' noise seems to follow the bounces of the S meter.

No signal needs to be in the filter passband or near the tuned frequency.

The 'splatter' noise sometimes occurs while listening to SSB signals if the NR and ANF are activated.
