The instructions for the Flex 1500 say to ground the 1500 to the computer. I have a common ground in the shack. I will be grounding the Flex 1500 to that common ground. However, my notebook computer power supply does not have the third (ground) pin.

Should I worry about this?

Can (or should) I plug in a USB cable and then connect its pin 4 (Ground) to the common ground?

The answer to the question is yes.

The audio from the Flex-1500 had a 60 cycle buzz when I hooked it up to this ungrounded computer.

I cut open a USB cable and attached the black wire to my single point ground.

The buzz disappeared.

No it is not compulsory to ground your notebook, it is important only for your safety reasons otherwise it is not going to harm your PC even if you don't ground that.
