one of the guys (w5sss) here in my are purchased a 3000 with the fimware for mars operation. how does this work. is this permanent. my question is if he installs a updated version of powersdr and the installer installs a firmware update will this over write the mars capabilitys. also can the firmware be backed up.

I'm also wondering the same thing.

I have a 5Mhz licence here in the UK, and also some homebrew transverter.

Can the UK distro supply me a new Flex3000 that is essentially 'unlocked' or is it done by software patch/licence from USA?

Thanks,

Steve

he purchased his off of qth.com. one would think your local disto would offer a patch.

i have several older transverters that i need to be able to transmit above 30mhz so that i can use the fm portions of 2m. the reply i got when asking to unlock my 1500 was tough luck. buy new low drive transverters.

Carey,

The update is a firmware update for that operator on a specific radio. Once updated, he should not have any issues upgrading, but there would be a note in the Release Notes for that version if there is an issue with the MARS updates.. It's only available to hams authorized to operate those frequencies.

Just for the intel:

The UK distro (Martin lynch & Sons) will indeed provide the firmware update for 5Mhz on production of the NoV.

Im enjoying the Flex 3000. Still learning and ironing out some small RF issues that have plagued me on all radios.

But today everything seems 100%. Heck of a receiver, the TS-590 has not been powered up since!
