Is anyone using a wide band pre amp for HF on the RX1 out and in connectors. I have been toying with the idea just because the radio is capable of doing this. I have AR2 Preamps on my Satellite antennas and love them, just wondering if its worth playing with on a radio that already has an awesome RX ..

Unless you have a VERY quiet location or an inefficient RX antenna, I doubt that you you gain very much with a preamp on 160-10m. Depending on how close you are to strong HF signals. you may find that a broad band preamp actually makes thing worse.

On 6m, many people find a low noise preamp useful with the 5k.

Well I decided to give it a shot with a AR2 preamp and it actually works pretty well, the noise floor does come up, but it will actually pull really weak signals up as well. Its a neat feature to have. I am really loving all the improvements with the 5000 over the old 1000. I even managed to get my rack audio gear to play well with the 5000, I know alot of people say you dont need it with the 10 band software EQ but it was already set up for my 1000 and my thoughts are that you just cant do the same things with software.
