Has anyone has any success interfacing a Kenwood MC50 microphone to the Flex 1500? I have read the recommendations to purchase the Yaesu MH-31A8J (or equivalent) but already having a MC50 begs me to ask the question.

Thanks to all and 73,

John WW3JR

I run an old MC-50 and it works fine once I got the pinouts correct.

It even works on AM beautifully. AM settings are a whole other science.

The pinout is

MC50 Pin1 to F Pin5 (mic+)
MC50 Pin2 to F Pin6 (PTT)
MC50 Pin3 to F Pin7 (Chassis Gnd)
MC50 Pin4 to F Pin4 (mic-)

Make sure you use the low impedance selection on the MC50

Adding to John's comment, a useful "tool" is the MFJ-1251. It let's me use practically any microphone as I simply configure jumpers inside the device to "re-pin" the MIC to what is needed by the Flex-1500.

It comes standard with a RJ45 and an 8-pin circular input and offers a RJ45 output. They also supply their MFJ-5398 cable, which is a RJ45-to-circular/8-pin mic cable.

Saved me a lot of soldering time and having to customize mics for the F1500. This way, my mics remain stock
