Hi,

I'm a newbie with a new SDR-1000!
I just bought the used SDR-1000 (April 2007 MFR) and am trying to use it with an FA-66 sound card but with no parellel cable, just for receive test.
Is this possible? I can't seem to get any signal through from the antenna, although the usual sound card noise and spectrum display is present.
The SDR-1000 includes the PA-100 and Z-100.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Don - W0RXX

You must use a parallel cable or the FlexRadio specific USB-to-Parallel cable to operate the SDR-1000. It is through this port that the radio gets its commands to function.

Thanks Tim,

I have a PC with no Parallel port, and have a USB cable on order. (just eager to try it!)

I see. Unfortunately that is a requirement for the SDR-1000. If you have any problems once you get it, just post something here if you have questions.

Hi,

I have a Dell Dimension 9000 which has no parallel port, so I bought a cheap Parallel card. After installing the card and driver, it didn't work. (No audio into the sound card)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a parallel card that will work with the SDR-100, or should I use the USB cable.

Thanks,

Don

Don,

The parallel card needs to have the proper voltage to bit bang the SDR-1000. It needs to comply with IEEE 1284 where there is +5v on the pins.

I have a card by Lava (I have n clue what it is) but it worked fine.

When you power up PowerSDR, you should hear the relays click. If you do , then the parallel interface is working.

Thanks Tim!

I checked last night, and there is no relay click when I turn the SDR-1000 on. The Parallel card is probably not up to the task, but I will try a different cable first, before going for a Lava PCI card.

Tim,

I replaced the Parallel card with a Lava Parallel PCI card and the SDR-1000 works fine now. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Lava Parallel PCI and Lava Parallel PCILP (Low profile version) are readily available if you have other users looking for that solution.

Thanks again for the help!

EXCELLENT! I am glad that you are back on the air.

Enjoy. I just snagged VP6 with the first call. An all time new one. This radio is great!

Tim,

Sounds like you talked to VP6DX on Ducie Atoll. He actually was my first and only contact so far with the SDR-1000!

I'm still learning how to use it, but have a frequent problem with the transmitter locking on. I tried using the USB cable, but in mid transmission the RED high SWR notice comes on, and a box opens saying "USB device not found".
That condition requires a re-boot of the PC to recover from.

I suspect that all these troubles are related to grounding and shielding needs, but hope I can get the unit stabilized.
I also have an oscillation problem at 14.297Mhz-14.300Mhz. This is in receive mode and results is a panadapter full of spurs as I tune across the frequencies.

Probably all related to Grounding or shielding issues.
