A friend of mine has a Flex 1500 that is acting strangely on AM and is wondering if anyone else has seen what he is experiencing. While in the AM mode, a MIC Level setting of "0" results in no RF output and advancing the MIC Level control raises the carrier or RF output in addition to adjusting the TX audio level. The problem is present regardless of the Drive Level setting or AM Carrier Level setting. Resetting the database did not change this behavior. The behavior has been present in both PSDR 2.0.8 and 2.0.16 versions. It's almost as if his Drive Level is tied directly to the Mic Level. Obviously, this prevents him from adjusting his Flex 1500 optimally in the AM mode. He is wondering if this is something that is present in all Flex 1500's or just his. He has submitted this odd behavior as a bug at the Bug List:
http://support.flexradio.com/ReviewBug.aspx?id=3315&it=B
I have never encountered this issue with my Flex 5000A while operating in the AM mode. If someone has time to see if their Flex 1500 behaves the same as his, that would be a big help.
Thanks,
Rob W1AEX
Note: Tim Ellison has indicated that there is a known bug with the AM carrier level varying ± 12dB with modulation (logged as DE239) but the issue my friend is seeing appears to be different.

It is a different manifestation of the same AM bug where the carrier varies with modulation.
Thanks for adding it to the bug tracker.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for jumping in. In trying to track down the status of this issue, the owner of the 1500 and I could not find any information about DE239 other than mention of it in the PSDR 2.0.8 release notes, so we are unsure about whether there are plans to resolve this or not. Any light you could shed on this would be very helpful as the rig was intended to be used primarily for low power AM on 160, 75, 40 and 10 meters. If there is no current plan to resolve it, I think he would probably sell it off to someone who is not interested in that mode.
Thanks,
Rob W1AEX
