Hello,

just received my FLEX-3000 and having my first hands-on-experiences. I am very impressed to say the least, but I still have to go a good number of steps to investigate all and gather further knowledge.

Back to my question:

can I ´wire´ the sytem in such way, to use the inbuilt speakers of the computer instead of adding external devices? Not only is it reducing components and wiring on the desk, but it seems to be the natural way as well. Wire from FLEX-3000 phones jack to computer line-in? Or Virtual Audio?

I would be glad if there´s simple solution. Maybe others would like it too.

Thanks for help

It is doable.

You need to have your PC's sound card setup as the default sound card device.

In PowerSDR Setup, open the Audio->VAC tab and set the VAC output to be your PC sound card.
Check the Mono/Stereo box
Make sure the "Allow PTT to override/bypass VAC for Phone" is checked too.

You have to have VAC enabled for every mode for this to work.

This is a way to do it, but it makes working digital mode more cumbersome because you will have to un-configure it if you use VAC for digital audio transfer.

It will also add latency because you are using another DAC to convert the FLEX-3000 audio from digital to analog.

I get a lot of "crackling" in the speakers when I do this. But your mileage may vary.

Hello Tim,

thanks for your quick reply. I will try your recommendation and let you know about my findings.

Would external wiring ´Phones´ to line-in of my laptop a possible alternate solution? Would impedances and level match? If so, a single wire may do the job as well.

Thanks in advance

Yes, that is possible too, but that will create a ground loop between the computer and the FLEX-3000 along with it being another ingress for RFI. And you will have to deal with level and impedance matching too since you are connecting a speaker output to a mic input.
