Delete what you think you do not need but be careful how you go about it.

Best to deselect something, write it down what you did, and give it a try then if it goes T*ts up you will know how to put it right. Work your way through until you get a fast load which will also mean that those items deselected are not cluttering up your system.

RE: What is minimum computer I would need to use the SDR-1000?

Thanks again for the info given so I can further explore the SDR. I found out someone near my home has one and I may see if I can get a demo in person from them over the holidays. The SDR is a brilliant bit of kit and capable of not only being a HF ssb radio but is also fully capable of all data modes. Therefore if you were intending to use the SDR radio for voice, cw, data and have it connected to the internet for tracking dx, looking up people on qrz.com, and also to maintain a computerised log AND for other general applications such as email, general internet, work based programs such as Excel or for writing letters, keeping home accounts etc, then you will need something that is capable of multi tasking.

My pc is listed in a different topic, yesterday I set up a pc for a friend who is also getting a SDR1000 radio and he bought a Pentium 6.8Ghz dual processor 1GB ram and 521Mb video card - quite a quick machine. When we started running multiple applications the CPU processor usage was running about 50%. - My machine and same applications gets the CPU running around 70%.

My advice is to download the PowerSDR software and see how your computer performs whilst running your normal applications, that way you can get a better feel of your requirements and if you need to upgrade.

RE: What is minimum computer I would need to use the SDR-1000?

There are two detailed descriptions of computer setups here

http://forums.flex-radio.com/Topic5-18-1.aspx
RE: What is minimum computer I would need to use the SDR-1000?

Thanks for the info. Another question I wanted to ask the group is about whether the computer needs to be connected to the internet or can it be just dedicated to running the Flex-radio? Also, my current computer is a 2.4 celeron / 512 ram but I would be willing to build up a dedicated computer as I have a spare tower box and would need to get a new motherboard for it. Any suggestions as to what works well and what boards folks have had problems with so I could avoid those pitfalls? TIA again, aa8wl

RE: What is minimum computer I would need to use the SDR-1000?

In general, our minimum specification for the CPU is 1.5GHz (ram is 512MB). If you are buying new, I would make sure to get something a good bit faster than this though. You could probably get away with less depending on other parameters such as what other software will need to be on the machine, what video card is installed (3D cards are typically faster), etc.

For the soundcard, you will want to go with one of our recommended soundcards. These are the Delta 44 which is PCI offering. It is value priced at $159. We also offer the Edirol FA-66 manufactured by Roland at $349.90. For an additional $27.50, we will provide all of the audio cables needed to interface either of these cards to our radio. Comparisons between these cards can be found on our knowledge base at kb.flex-radio.com.

Eric Wachsmann

FlexRadio Systems

What is minimum computer I would need to use the SDR-1000?

I would like to know what is the minimum computer I would need to be using with the SDR-1000 and any brands that are not user friendly when hooked to the SDR? I have heard of some motherboards that have sound built onto them and is that a problem.
